Who do you trust? More to the point, who do you trust with your life? Is there anyone that you would place your very heartbeat within their hands, whereas if they made a mistake, you would no longer be alive?
I remember finding a grasshopper, picking it up, then placing it onto the live wire of an electric fence. Thinking for sure it would come alive again....
It's great how we find commonality and ways to connect with a wider population who are like-minded. It feels good to fit "in". So, we go all in. But do we have the same connection with the the body of Christ? The same pride of ownership?
Here at the home of a dead man Jesus is consoling Martha and asking one question, do you believe? With her statement and heartfelt acceptance Jesus could now proceed to do something impossible...make the dead un-dead.
That was it. All for this. All to be taken to the wine press and crushed until the lifeblood was extracted.
In this vision God pulls His own up and out. Darkness, in the sky. Clouds billow in from the seas ~ as a formidable wall of no escape extends down.
We covet pride, ego and self-interests above what is Holy and well for the church body. We take a stand for our purposes, what we demand as our rights, our requirements; leaving the core essence of the church mission in the dust.
