God sees us as equally broken, full of potential but desperately in need of His remedy. His offer of salvation is for all, offered the same to each person, in every generation.
Salvation does not make one person better than another.
We have the greatest tool of holy intercession with God ever placed into humanity; it is called prayer. When we gather in prayer, we can work out and offer up the needs, conflicts, and issues of the church body. There is power in group prayer!
Jesus was not at the pool where he received sight, so the only way the healed man knew Him was by His distinctive and memorable voice. THAT voice was now right here with him. It came from a face with eyes of kindness and hope asking "Do you believe?"
To worship God is to be a lamp stand, shining His glory back out in all that you do. We as the body of Christ are just as saved, restored and loved whether we sit in a church building or stand in an open field. Together or separate we belong to Christ.
Here at the home of a dead man Jesus is consoling Martha and asking one question, do you believe? With her statement and heartfelt acceptance Jesus could now proceed to do something impossible...make the dead un-dead.
I cleaned up the kitchen area and wheeled the communion elements out to the church sanctuary. What she had said reverberated in my spirit, thinking to myself about how we, while in the very place where the body is to be love (the church) - put up "walls of us versus them".
